Background

Dr. Ito holds the rank of Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, the Faculty of Agriculture, Kyushu University, Japan. He will be collaborating with Dr. Eric Wailes on research related to rice consumption, market developments and international trade. During the next 3 years of collaboration, Dr. Ito plans on spending at least one month per year on the Fayetteville campus to work intensively with Dr. Wailes and his associates. This research addresses an issue important to the future of the Arkansas rice industry and is an excellent opportunity to integrate U.S. and Japanese perspective on trade policy and rice demand so critical to U.S. rice exports.
